Corporation of People’s Situations (COPS)

with Jennifer Bennett, Alice Peragine, Lene Benz, Balz Isler, Ida Roscher, Carl Gerber, Josephine Findeisen, Sonja Hornung, Katja Lell and many others

The group was formed in 2015 out of the need to jointly consider and artistically work on themes and problems of housing and property: How can new approaches to concepts such as real estate, living space, ownership, access, border and barrier be conceived and tested?
Could the practice of occupying spaces be revived and updated?
Corporation of People's Situations functions, on the one hand, as a space for discussion and intellectual localization, but at the same time it developed a practice as an artistic collective.

From June to September 2017, Corporation of People's Situations were invited to an exhibition at the Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof. For this  we worked with the screenwriter Carl Gerber, who developed a script from conversations with the group and individual interviews, which was then staged with the exhibition space as a stage situation and backdrop during the course of the show. Scaffolding, foils, belts and mats were used and misused for exercises, as meeting places and infrastructure for an open archive with texts, audio recordings, videos and research material.

In February 2019, the audiovisual performance Real Estate of Emergency was created as part of the Transmediale Festival, in which video, audio and text material were combined in an improvised live composition.
